Book Review - Rhythm Section Drumming
![]() |
Frank Corniola’s Rhythm Section Drumming is another on my list of must have drum books. Simply seeing the list of testimonials on the inside cover should be enough to convince you of this books credibility. No less than Dom Famularo, Dave Weckl, Virgil Donati, Steve Smith, Chad Wackerman, David Jones, Graham Morgan and Dennis Chambers all chime in to sing its’ praises.Even though it is a drum book, what makes it different is the attention it pays to how the drums and bass interact to form a Rhythm Section, as the book is titled. It gives examples of bass patterns with every set of drum exercises and of course comes with a play along CD. |
| What I like about it is wide variety of topics it covers, from basic rock beats to latin rhythms to odd time pieces, all covered very thoroughly. Each section also contains at least one great summary exercise that can be played along with the CD backing. There are also 10 complete songs with drum and bass charts as well as backing tracks on the CD. All in all this is a book that will last you for many years and definitely improve your drumming.
