Buddy Rich Memorial Concert Part 1
![]() |
This is the first in a series of tapes that were released of the inaugural Buddy Rich Memorial Scolarship Concert. It features some great footage of Buddy in his prime cutting loose, as well as a collection of awesome drummers entertaining the crowd with the Buddy Rich Big Band. The first tape features Gregg Bissonette, Louie Bellson and Dennis Chambers. They all play some of Buddy’s classic tunes with their own particular styles added in. Some of the solos are just plain unbelievable! Gregg Bissonette starts things off and shows great versatility in moving from solid jazz to a rock feel and back with absolute ease. He also shows off possibly one of history’s greatest mullets! |
| Next cab off the rank is the legendary jazz drummer, Louie Bellson. He performs beautifully with the band before stepping up a few gears into a classic solo. His “two sticks in each hand” solo is fantastic and quite rare. | |
| Dennis Chambers then blows the place away with sheer speed and power in the true mold of Buddy Rich. The guy is all over the kit with a speed that has to be seen to be believed. | |
| If that wasn’t enough the three of them then get together for a massive three-way drum battle. It is really hard to pick a winner as all of them are phenomenal drummers. You can get your own copy by clicking on the image of the tape above or by visiting our online store. |
